Key Information - School Based Lessons

FAQs

When does my lesson take place?

School based lessons take place during the school day. Music School teachers arrange their own timetables and move between schools throughout the day; we cannot guarantee that the music teacher’s time in your child’s school will not be at the same time as a school lunchbreak and/or other lesson/activity.

What happens if my child’s teacher is unavailable one week?

The lesson will be made up later in the term or next term. We guarantee 36 lessons per academic year, pro rata. This does not apply if the school cancels the lesson for any reason, including school trips and assessments or if your child if absent from school.

What are ensembles/musicianship and how does my child access these classes?

Ensembles and musicianship are an important part of playing an instrument and help pupils gain confidence in an inclusive, friendly environment at the Music Centre. When pupils attend a group at either Saturday or Wednesday Music School they will also have the opportunity to perform in concerts which is a great way for parents/carers to see what they have achieved and support their progress.

  • Ensemble can be an orchestra, band or choir. Musicianship explores the basic elements of music and integrates the topics of composition, performance, history, philosophy and ear training. Learning music theory allows musicians to recognise patterns in music and become fluent readers of notated Music theory creates a musician that can speak, write and read the language of music.
